Sometimes being a mama makes your heart hurt, sometimes it makes you gag.

The rule at dinner is that Dade has to take at least one bite of everything on his plate or he has to go to bed. He is a very picky eater, but he doesn't like to try much. On Saturday we had homemade Chicken Cordon Bleu and corn for dinner. The boy loves some corn and ate all that he was given. We had had the chicken before and he loved it, but this night he was convinced he did not like it and refused to eat any. Jon told him to take a bite or he had to go to bed. We reminded him several times. In my head, "Please choose obedience, please eat the bite of chicken, I really don't want to fight the battle that will ensue if you don't eat the chicken. Please for the love of all things holy eat the chicken." Nothing, no chicken went in his mouth. We continued to explain that his choice meant he had to go to bed. He went to his room and got his overnight diaper. Came back downstairs, said his goodnights to Papa, grabbed baby jaguar and his paw print blanket and headed off to bed. I'm thinking to myself wow this is really easy. We said prayers, I patted his back told him I loved him and walked out. Then it started, crying, wailing screaming. And it got worse as I was washing dishes, I hear on the monitor,”Mama, mama, I love you lots" over and over and over. My heart was breaking, so sweet, but I had to stick to my guns. After about an hour he finally fell asleep.

We are loosely working on potty training with Dade. I don’t think he is quite ready, but the nanny is all into it. (that is another story) On the weekend when Dade has to have a BM he asks to hold my hand. This past weekend we encouraged him to sit on the potty and I agreed to hold his hand. We talked and he grunted and there it was in the potty. As he finished we both started gagging. Being a mama is always a new adventure.

Check out my kid, he’s got moves. Below is a sampling of him embracing his Latino heritage.

We have the same battles with Abby. She used to be such a great eater, but I didn't cook much when I was pregnant last year and started eating out a lot instead. It turned her into a super picky eater, and now she's not willing to try new foods like she used to be. I'm sorry I wish I had some advice, but I hope it helps to know you're not alone at least.

I swear that Charlotte is 2 1/2 going on 13. She is SUCH a picky eater. I can't stand it. I know it is normal, but I am just so exhausted with the daily care of the twins that then trying to get her to eat literally makes me want to cry sometimes. I am not kidding. I don't have any advice, but I want to say I know exactly what you are going through. Of course, all of my friends who have singletons have "perfect" eaters and I just want to spit. Anyway, just think, one day they will all be teenagers, eating us out of house and home!
