The Great Date Night...

that kinda happened...

So Saturday rolls around and I am stoked (yes, I'm a child of the '80's) that I will get to spend the night with my love. We decided against the fancy pants restaurant in old town because it required a reservation and with it being saturday night we didn't know what time we could get in, no biggie. Also, after researching the movies playing at our closest theater we discovered that the Blindside only had two showings in the evening, we had already decided that we would see a matinee, so we decided on Avatar at 3:20. It wasn't my first choice but as a love exchange because I knew my husband wanted to see it sooo badly, I would go.We were still on for the movies and dinner.
As I mentioned on Friday the people that bought our furniture were coming at 1pm to move it out. Jon got an e-mail from the purchasers that the movers were running 30 minutes late. They actually didn't show up until 1:40. The room consisted of 1-table, 2-leaves, 8-chairs, 2-piece china cabinet and 1-buffet. They didn't finish moving the furniture out of our house until 3:10!! I began to sink... We ran to the car and tried with all our might to get to the theater hoping they would let us in late. At 3:35 we were still standing in line when we made the call to give up. I could see the disappointment in my husband's face and it made me sad.
We tried to make the best of it and looked for a piece of furniture to hold all the stuff family treasures and fine china we had in the old dining room set. At the Room Store the sales girl literally chased us down. (Annoying!!) Then we headed to dinner at the Texas Roadhouse, it was only 5pm when we were seated. I can't remember the last time we ate dinner that early. We were seated in the romantic section of the retaurant, also known as the middle right next to the waitress station and to the other side of us a family with a small child, about 6 or 7 months. The poor little guy must have been hungry or tired and was not really happy. Crying babies in all honesty don't bother me, I feel for the mama and the baby in the situation as I watch other restaurant goers fling evil glances. What did bother me was the mama getting in the baby's face and SHHH'ing him loudly or the Dad getting in his face and telling him that was enough. Really?? He is a little baby, why are you bullying him? Whoa, sorry, so yeah most of our conversation was thwarted given all the noise around us, the food was good... We then headed to Pier 1, Kirklands (a great place for pictures, when I start decorating) and finally Target. We did not find a piece of furniture to put in our dining room and we were done with our search by 6:10. We stalled a little more because I wanted to get home after the kids had eaten. Sorry Mom I didn't want to clean them up.
So I'm glad we got to spend some one on one time together, but I feel like we ran errands which was a disappointment. Better luck next time.

2010 - Project Us

As a recap I have labeled this year the "Year of the Project" you can find my other project posts here and here.

Next up is US. No not YOU and me. Him and me, the love of my life, the father of my children, the maker of my coffee, the hottest man on the planet (yes, I know I'm partial).

A little history about us, you know if you are new here. With the words, "What God has joined together let no man separate. I now pronounce you husband and wife, you may kiss your bride." On September 24, 2005 we became one, joined together for life. Over the next three plus a smidge years, we added three beautiful children to our family, purchased 2 homes, bought 4 cars, lost two jobs and had taken four pay cuts. There were good times and bad times, and we made it through changed, stronger and weaker, closer and farther apart.
For US the hardest part has been defining and re-defining our relationship after the addition of our children. When Dade was born I mourned the loss of what our relationship was, we were able to be selfish and focus solely on each other and now there was another person that demanded all of our attention. It took time, but we eventually trusted him to others and re-connected on dates. Just as we had "hit our groove" along came the sweet girlies and our world turned upside down over and over again. For us having two babies at once was hard, really hard. We lost touch with each other, we did life side-by-side instead of together as a team, but we didn't realize it. We were tired, stressed, overwhelmed. Jon and I don't fight; we never really have we snip at each other when we are frustrated or hurt rather than talk about our feelings eventually it all comes out, but over time and some damage is done that needs to be repaired. We are reaching our groove as a family of five and this year we need to re-connect. Our kids need to see Mama and Papa put each other first, they need to see us be loving to each other, they need to witness a healthy relationship at home and we need some alone time…

Þ   Once a month, a date
o   Re-connect, try not to talk about the kids
Þ   Once a quarter, a night away
o   Send the kids away or stay away from the house
o   Do not have a to-do list
Þ   Once this year, a weekend away
o   Oh my gosh!! I can't wait. I'm not sure what we will do or how we will pay for it, but I'm SOOO excited.

*- Please know we both love and cherish our children more than words and we do not in any way, shape, form, or fashion blame them for anything that happened between us. As I said above we didn't realize what we were allowing to happen to our relationship.

Bubble Boy Man

This is my husband….

I recently did an ooey-gooey post about him on his birthday, you can read it here.
He has many amazing and fantastic qualities.

He is—

handsome (clearly you can see that by looking at the picture, ok now you can stop ogling now)
caring
loving (you should see him with the kids)
sensitive
thoughtful
has a great sense of humor
and is a Klutz

That last quality is what brings about this post today.  I recently threatened my husband that I would be putting him in a bubble in hopes of protecting him from, well, himself. Let's picture this, my 5' 11" husband in a giant hamster ball type contraption. Now you may be saying to yourself, Heidi, "Why in the WORLD would you want to put your husband in a bubble?"

Let me share some things with you that happened just this weekend.

-         After putting away Christmas decorations we were lounging in the living room watching the kids play with there new toys when 3-2-1 Brennan plops on Jon's face smashing his glasses into his head. Every time he gets on the floor to play with the kids approximately 3 seconds pass before he gets his face smashed, the wind knocked out of him or 20-30 lbs of kid to the nether regions each occurrence renders him useless for several minutes. For me, I can be on the floor a good 10-15 minutes and then the kids just get bored with me being there.
-         Trying to be silly, my dear sweet husband attempted to shimmy himself under a baby gate into the family room like the kids do and he couldn't because of his shoulders. But then he was stuck and I was changing a poopy diaper, there he is with his head wedged under the gate saying OW!! I'm stuck. He was finally able to free himself before I was able to move the gate. A few moments later in the kitchen I saw it, blood. He was bleeding on his chin, How? Was all I could say.
-         While playing a rousing game of CandyLand, the hubs was munching on a candy cane. (kinda ironic) Then I hear him mutter something and heads to the kitchen. He had cut his tongue. How does this happen?? How??  But wait it gets better, in an attempt to stop the bleeding he was using a paper towel and choked himself.
-         Finally, on Saturday while at Costco loading the car with our wares he bonked his head on the minivan. There was nothing protruding from the van he just randomly whacked the ole noggin and gave himself a headache.

All these things happened just this weekend. Add them to the list of random cuts on his hands, bruises from who knows where and the occasionally tripping on nothing and it's just a recipe for disaster. So I threatened the bubble..

His response, "Oh, I guess I won't be able to help with the dishes or laundry."

...and with that the bubble idea is out the window.

**Disclaimer- No husband was hurt in the creation of this post and he did verbally consent and give an eye roll when I mentioned writing this.

A little love from Dade.

It's happened. Our bebe boy is big enought to make presents. For Papa's birthday Dade made a present and he was so excited about it that after the babies went to bed on Tuesday night he insisted that Papa open his present. I'm not sure that the pictures were able to catch the pure joy he had as he wished his Papa, "Happy Birthday!!" over and over again...

Helping Papa with the wrapping. (Dade even wrapped the present with Titi's help)

Oh cool buddy what is it?

Thank you so much. MUAH!!

Look Mama a "marker holder".
(Dade has a bit of an obsession with markers.)
The pen holder has a big sticker on it that says, "I AM THE BOSS". It made me laugh because it reminded me of Michael Scott's giant mug on the office.
Jon did take his gift to work and has pens in it on his desk. I should probably get a picture of it to show Dade.

One of Dade's favorite shows is "Mitzurvivor" aka Survivor. He loves the challenges. On last nights episode one of the immunity challenges was bowling, which Dade praticipated in on the family room floor with a miniature basketball. After the challenge was over he declared himself the winner and asked for his (immunity) necklace. Here is his sporting his immunity. It's a rolled up baby receiving blanket, the best this mom could come up with in a pinch.

Finally, how is it even remotely fair that this little boy has such long thick glorious eyelashes?? I'm so jealous. Can you guess where they come from? Yeah, his father. At least the girls got them too, they will never need to use mascara.
